Endodontic dentistry deals with the tooth pulp (inner tissues of the tooth). The procedures usually include working on the contained nerves, arterioles, venules and lymphatic or fibrous tissue that has become injured or degenerative due to disease. This treatment is most ofent recommended to patients cnce the pulp or tissue becomes unable to repair itself, or it dies. The most common Endodontic procedure is a root canal.

Endodontists are dentists who take additional certifcations to specialize in this field by taking an additional 2-3 years of training following dental school.
